Drukier Institute

Drukier Institute

Homepage redesign.

Role: UI design

Overview

The goals of the Drukier Institute website:

  • Encourage donations to the institute

  • Increase traffic to major site areas:

    • Postdoctoral sections (including increase in applications for postdoctoral students)

    • Publications

    • Communications with faculty members

  • Promote work from researchers

  • Disseminate published papers and information to communities

  • Highlight impact of seminars

Problem:

  • Low through traffic from the homepage- 35% through traffic, 64% drop off rate from the homepage

    1. From the homepage, users click through to the About Us page, Publications, Drukier Prize Nominations, and Faculty pages

  • Lowest percentage of page-views are for Publications, Seminars, Drukier Prize Nominations, and Faculty- yet these are the areas the department wants to highlight most.

  • Support Us is not in the top 10 most viewed pages, nor on the top landing pages.

Solution:

Reconsider overall UI of the homepage to call attention to major areas of the department, such as Faculty, Publications, Support Us/Donate, and Seminars to better tell the users who the Drukier Institute is and what they do.

Design

Homepage Design

Problem:

  • Original homepage lacked callouts to major areas of the website. The lack of callouts does not allow users to use the homepage for wayfinding/navigating through important areas of the website.

  • Support us page is not listed on any of google analytics top pages for the site.

Solution:

  • Create callouts on homepage to direct users to important areas of the website, Faculty, Publications, Support Us/Donate and Seminars to better tell the users who the Drukier Institute is and what they do, as well as improve wayfinding for the users.
